CHANDIGARH: A total of 106 street vendors who deal in food have registered with the Food Safety Standard Authority of India (FSSAI). It’s the first time in town that vendors have received certificates from national food safety regulators that set high standards of hygiene.
The food wing of the health department of the UT administration will now train the sellers regularly and sensitize them to the guidelines of the central government. If the sellers fail to adhere to the standards, they will face a penalty that can go as far as the cancellation of the FSSAI certificates.

In the coming days, more and more street vendors will receive FSSAI certificates and register with them through training and instructions. In addition, their regular controls, food safety and hygiene inspections will continue. We have also partnered with PGI as a training partner to provide training to providers, ”said one official.
