Aspiring farmer Ruby Travis, 16, drives the tractor to prom night

An aspiring teenage farmer made a suitably groundbreaking appearance on her prom night at school – by harnessing a tractor.

Ruby Travis, 16, of Filby, is preparing to study agriculture at Easton College after graduating from Flegg High Ormiston Academy in Martham, near Great Yarmouth.

So there was really only one vehicle to choose from for the school prom at Southwood Hall.

A family friend put her in touch with Jamie Golinny, the rental assistant at Ben Burgess farm equipment dealer in Norwich, who was delivering a sparkling John Deere tractor for their big night.

“I didn’t like the idea of driving a small car,” said Ruby.

“It was a little different and everyone was pretty surprised and said: Look, there’s a girl on a tractor!

“I was a little nervous at the beginning, but I enjoyed it.

“I’ve always been interested in agriculture. I just like the idea of being outside and not being stuck in the office inside. There are so many options.”
