Car crashes into Maple Ridge Food Bank building
The Friends in Need Food Bank can continue to deliver to its customers
No one will miss a meal despite a vehicle driving through the front window of the Friends in Need Food Bank on Monday afternoon.
Food bank spokeswoman Mary Robson said near the end of the food bank Monday, a vehicle jumped the curb and plowed into the building. Unfortunately, more than just window replacement was required as the brickwork showed structural damage, a door frame was warped and residents are required to receive a structural report to ensure the integrity of a support beam has not been compromised.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, although the panel was still open and staff and volunteers were on site. Workers distribute food outside to minimize the chance of COVID-19 transmission.
The vehicle could be seen pulling into the parking lot but did not brake and drove straight into the building. A grocery bank customer was standing in front on his bike and was just missed.
The board was able to reopen on Tuesday morning to provide meals.
