Another fast food place is on its way to Derby when planning permission is granted to convert an existing building with a thoroughfare and new signage.
Tim Hortons was founded in Canada and describes itself as a “coffee and bakery restaurant chain”. He wants to move into the former Pizza Hut store in the Wyvern.
The pizzeria closed during last year’s lockdowns, and in January the company announced that it would not reopen if the latest restrictions were lifted.
Now Tim Hortons has filed with Derby City Council to design a drive-through lane, relocation of storage space and minor changes to the car park design, and demolition of a small portion of the unit to provide a service window.
The filing states: “The purpose of filing is to improve consumer choice for customers looking to purchase food and / or beverages to take away.”

The existence of a Pizza Hut branch on the site for 20 years prevents applicants from requesting a change of use, according to the planning document.
It adds, “The proposal will result in the re-use of a recently vacated unit, improve the external appearance of the unit and provide the more modern facilities now expected by the public.
“It will also bring much-needed investment during construction and local employment opportunities will be created after Tim Hortons occupies the unit.”
Tim Hortons was founded in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1964 and there are now 4,500 stores from coast to coast.
Known as Timmy’s, it is a place known for its fresh coffee and baked goods that is visited by more than 5.3 million Canadians every day.
In addition to coffee and donuts, Tim Hortons serves a wide range of snacks and drinks such as toasted bagels and wraps
The first UK Tim Hortons opened in 2017 and there are now 28 branches with the aim of expanding the drive-thru.
The planning application is expected to be decided in the next eight to 12 weeks.
