A couple’s wedding in New Jersey in Lavallette is punctuated by a crazy gargoyle

As if planning a New Jersey wedding amid COVID restrictions wasn’t enough. Nicole and Kevin Travers, who were married last Saturday at Lavalette Centennial Gazebo and Gardens in Lavalette, never expected to deal with the gargoyle that found its way through Barnegat Bay.

The happy couple called on my radio show 101.5 in New Jersey to tell me their story.

“We’ve been tracking the weather all week. We knew it was going to rain a bit, but we were hoping to miss it,” says Kevin, who was also grappling with a limo problem that put his drive in jeopardy.

“We’re at the pavilion and it’s starting to hail and we say, ‘You have to be kidding me.’ Then someone tells me to turn around, it forms like a tornado, “says Kevin. “I turn around and a gargoyle forms in front of my eyes that is getting bigger by the second and we really didn’t know what to do to be honest.”

According to Kevin, here’s what they did.

“We just kind of monitored and postponed the ceremony by 15 minutes. My best man and younger brother Brian were running around in the rain letting our family know what happened. My other two best man, Matt and Joe – Matt was essential for the music … and Joe was in direct contact with her father, who ended up having to take my bride to the ceremony because we didn’t have limos. “

Finally, when there was a weather break, Nicole and Kevin made their wedding possible.

“It’s like magic. All of our family members and friends just knew they had to get out of their cars, random people wiping seats. It was like a whole team effort, it was really beautiful.”

Did you see the gargoyle as a kind of sign? Nicole tells me, “If rain is good luck, what does a gargoyle mean?” Good luck! “It must mean good things!”
