Basildon’s mother had no idea she was pregnant

A waitress who had a stomach ache at work gave birth a few hours after finishing her shift – although she had no idea she was pregnant.

Jodi-Marie Ash from Basildon thought she had eaten something dubious when she felt uncomfortable, but at the end of her eight hour shift she was in excruciating pain.

When the 20-year-old arrived at the hospital, she was told that she was pregnant and was already in labor.

Their little girl was born an hour later.

Jodi-Marie took birth control pills during her pregnancy and remained a size 10 with no symptoms.

Even more shocking, the young mother claims she had a negative pregnancy test just five months before giving birth when she took one with a friend for moral support.

She even went clubbing for her 18th birthday and climbed into the 02 arena unaware that she was carrying her baby.

Now her daughter Skyla Grimsey is one, Jodi claims she takes a pregnancy test every three months.

Jodi-Marie said: “I thought the pain was appendicitis, stomach ache, or I ate the wrong thing – I never thought for a second that I was going into labor.

“I had my menstrual periods and wasn’t sick or sick at all.

“There was no lump shape as such – after I ate I got more bloated than usual, but there was nothing to worry about very much.”

Jodi-Marie said she woke up on May 12, 2019 and went to work despite some stomach problems. But when she was picked up that evening, she could not sit still because she was in so much pain.

Jodi-Marie said, “The doctor said to me, ‘Oh, we’re going to do a pregnancy test on you. ‘

“After he said I was pregnant, I immediately said, ‘Why am I in so much pain? ‘

“He said they had to send me for more tests and I went to the delivery room in a wheelchair without knowing I was going there and the doorman told me I was going there and was about to give birth.

“I think I was shocked and surprised more than anything – it was all a bit surreal.

“The whole night was a blur and went very quickly, but at the time I just remember thinking I just had to get the baby out.”

After less than an hour of active labor, their baby girl Skyla was born at 1:57 a.m., weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces.

The young mother said that both her family and the family of Skyla’s father were on hand throughout the process, helping to care for the newborn baby on such short notice.

Jodi-Marie said: “Everyone was very supportive so that we didn’t have to walk around and do a lot to be honest.

“I called my mom and dad and just posted it on Facebook for everyone else to see. I didn’t want to call everyone and act like that happened.

“My friends were just as shocked as I was – my co-workers said, ‘You were pregnant? You would never have known.

“What they say about a mother’s instinct is true because somehow I just knew I had to do it.

“At the time I was like ‘wow’ as anyone would be, but after it all subsided, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
