An upcoming event for the LGBTQ + community will be the first of its kind in Cornwall, according to the organizers.
The event – Prism Silent Disco – is scheduled to take place in September and was set up in part to address the lack of events for members of the LGBTQ + community in Cornwall.
As CornwallLive has reported, there are no longer any gay bars or clubs in the county.
As a result, the community (as in other areas) has no place to be at home in Cornish nightlife.
This is what the organizer Nicki Isaacs would like to address.

“I’ve been organizing events for several years,” said Ms. Isaacs.
“A friend pointed out to me that the only LGBTQ + location was in Truro – and that it recently closed too.
“There’s nothing, they’ve all turned it off.”
Ms. Isaacs stated that she was interested in organizing “inclusive” events and enabling people to have events that provide a safe and comfortable space for minorities.
“We decided that a silent disco would be great,” she said.
It will be held at Heartlands in Pool in September, purposely at least a month after the scheduled Cornwall Pride.
This, Ms. Isaacs said, is to allow people to recover from the Pride hangover rather than dissuade them from this event.
Excitingly, she said that if it is a success it could become a normal thing: “We could do it in a different location in Cornwall, maybe every three months.
“We would never be able to do something weekly like a pub could, but we can do something.”
Although Ms. Isaacs is friends and relatives of members of the LGBTQ + community, she is not there herself – but she hopes to make this known.
“You’re getting a raw deal with the lack of venues and I’m all for the inclusion.
“I find it unfair that they don’t have the same things on offer and when it was suggested to me I thought it was well in my ability to organize it.”
There will be music from around 6:30 pm, mostly old-style dance and pop, followed by a selection of two DJs as soon as the headphones come out for the silent disco.
With the included headphones, participants can choose their favorite between the two competing DJs.
