Tesla’s protest appears to be helping to direct pedestrian traffic to the EV maker’s booth at the Shanghai Auto Show

One day after a protest against Tesla in China, reported by international media, the EV manufacturer’s booth at the Shanghai International Auto Show remained popular. Numerous visitors checked the company’s all-electric vehicles. This was seen in videos and pictures taken the day after the high profile demonstration.

Based on pictures and clips from Tesla’s booth the day after the protest, the EV maker is still attracting a large crowd of visitors. While much of this may have been due to Tesla’s popularity in China and the Model 3’s ranking in the country’s EV sector, some of the increased interest could also have been inspired by post-protest coverage.

On Monday, Tesla’s booth at the Shanghai International Auto Show became the scene of a drama after a Model 3 owner climbed onto one of the exhibition vehicles and protested the company, claiming their vehicle’s brakes were malfunctioning. The owner of the Model 3 was joined by another demonstrator who stayed with the crowd. The two women wore shirts that explained Tesla’s alleged braking error.

The woman on the Model 3 was immediately removed from the guards at the event, but not before the protest attracted any notable level of attention. Unfortunately for the protester, she was arrested by the Shanghai police for “disturbing public order”. The protester would also be in police custody for five days.

The Tesla protester saga began in February when the woman’s Model 3 crashed into another vehicle at a speed the EV manufacturer later determined and was about 118 km / h. The owner claimed the accident was due to a brake failure, although police have determined that the cause of the incident was reckless driving as the Model 3 did not maintain a safe distance from the cars in front.

The Tesla owner later took action against her local Tesla service center, refused the repair and instead insisted on a full refund and compensation for lost wages. The owner also turned down Tesla’s offer to have the vehicle taken to a third party agency for investigation. Picket protests were later organized against the company, culminating in protests this Monday at the Shanghai International Auto Show.

For its part, Tesla reacted to the incident, later apologized to the Model 3 owner and set up a special “Special Handling Team” for customer concerns.

“We apologize for not resolving the car owner’s problem in a timely manner. Tesla respects and follows decisions made by relevant government departments, respects consumers, abides by laws and regulations, and is determined to actively cooperate with all investigations by relevant government departments. To this end, we have set up a special handling team that is dedicated to special handling and strives to meet the needs of car owners and keep car owners satisfied in compliance with laws and regulations, ”the company wrote.
